Where to even begin...About a year ago at this time I was graduating from the University of Puget Sound. While many of my friends were stressing out wondering what the next step after college was going to be, I was sitting back enjoying every second, knowing that God was in control. I had recently accepted a job with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. A ministry that I grew up in and fell in love with from the moment I attended my first camp. Four years prior I had moved up to the city of Tacoma, WA not really sure what to expect and here I was extending my stay in a city that I now call home.
Some people will tell you that Tacoma can be a rough city. The funny thing is I never saw it like that. I saw a city that just needed Jesus. I saw a city that has beautiful waters, a vibrant downtown, amazing views, and one of the greatest parks in the Pacific Northwest. It is no question that Yahoo ranked Tacoma as the most romantic city in America. But I didn't want to stay for the romance. I decided to stay because I felt called to make an impact on this city and spread the love of Christ. Washington is one of the top unchurched states in America. I felt called because the drop out rates for young kids in the inner-city schools of Tacoma has been off the charts. I am a firm believer that there are too many passive men in our society today. We just sit back and look at each other hoping someone else is going to take care of it. God is calling us to GET UP and to do something extraordinary for Him.
So here I am...not even a year later and I have seen God move in amazing ways. I am seeing kids from Gig Harbor and Peninsula pray to be lights on their campuses. I am seeing young leaders rise up with a God fearing coach at Sumner High School to make an impact. I am seeing young men with bright smiles light up when I come to share at their chapel before games at Lincoln High School. I am seeing a board of community members coming together to make a change for this city. Can someone say God is Good!!!! Jesus is amazing and he is the God of this city and I cannot wait to see how He continues to use FCA as platform to reach thousands of coaches and athletes around.
